Dr. Frazar Fits Houston Texan with a PPM (Pure Power MouthGuard)

December 19th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

Dr. Kathy Frazar is offering the latest “EDGE” in dental technology to star atheletes such as Defensive End, Earl Cochran of the Houston Texans.

PPM (Pure Power MouthGuards) are giving atheletes the added “Edge” needed for that extra balance on the ice, more yards on the field, a more fluid and powerful golf swing, a higher vertical leap on the basketball court or greater results from strength training.

Earl will be wearing his PPM this weekend when the Texans take on the Colts.  Check back for an update on his thoughts and results of wearing his PPM.  For more information on PPM (Pure Power MouthGuards), check out www.ppmmouthguard.com.

Success Story:

Derrick Walser, Professional Hockey Player

“I’ve been using the PPM mouthguard and I’ve seen some noticeable improvements in my balance, and a large improvement in the pain in my right shoulder while doing certain exercises.

The exercised where I’ve seen the most improvement so far are the shoulder press, lunges, step-ups and especially curls with a straight bar-this was the biggest difference because I wasn’t able to do them before because of the pain in my shoulder.”

Patient Wanted a Wider Smile

December 18th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

This patient came in with existing porcelain crowns with metal underneath.  She did not like the dark line that slowly started to show as the patient got natural gum recession from grinding her teeth.  The patient also stated that she wanted a “wider smile”, and did not like the fact that she showed “black space” where her teeth ended and her check started.  Dr. Frazar spoke to the patient about bleaching her lower teeth, replacing the front two crowns, and adding 4 veneers on the sides of the front two teeth to give her the appearance of a wider, larger smile.  The patient loves her smile and has already referred her husband for a similar procedure.

A New Smile With No-Prep Veneers

December 18th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

This is a high school patient that recently had her conventional braces removed and was born with peg laterals.  Peg laterals, are teeth on the side of the large two front teeth that come in smaller than they should be compared to the surrounding teeth, and is a common condition that can be passed down to children.  The patient and her mother wanted to hear about their options to correct the shape of the teeth but were hesitant to prepare, or smooth the enamel of the teeth.  Dr. Frazar spoke to the patient about no-prep veneers.  The teeth can be prepared for the no-prep veneers and the surface of the tooth is not smoothed at all.  The patient received two veneers and is very pleased with the result of the aesthetics of her new smile.

Fluorescence Visualization Technology

jsw_dscn0025.jpgA NEW TOOL FOR ORAL MUCOSAL EXAMINATION         figure2[1].jpg

The VELscope System is a revolutionary hand-held device that provides dentists, hygienists, and other oral health care professionals with an easy-to-use adjunctive mucosal examination system for the early detection of abnormal tissue.  The VELscope System patented technology platform was developed by the British Coloumbia Cancer Agency in collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center, with funding provided in part by the NIH.  It is based on the direct visualization of tissue fluorescence and the changes in fluorescence that occur when abnormalities are present.  The VELscope  System Handpiece emits a safe blue light into the oral cavity, which excites the tissue from the surface of the epithelium through to the basement membrane and into the stroma beneath, causing it to fluoresce.  The clinician is then able to immediately view the different fluorescence responses to help differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue.  In fact, the VELscope System is the only adjunctive device cleared by the FDA and Health Canada to help discover oral musosal lesions that might not be apparent or visible to the naked eye and to help surgeons determine the appropriate surgical margin for tumor excision.  Under examination with the VELscope System, abnormal tissue typically appears as an irregular, dark area that stands out against the otherwise normal, green fluorescence pattern of surrounding healthy tissue.
